2015 Miss Chick and Mr. Rooster Contest
The Mentone Egg Festival Miss Chick and Mr. Rooster Contest was held on Saturday, the last day of the festival. Six children participated in the contest, four girls and two boys. Most of the participants dressed up to match this year’s parade theme, “There is no Place Like Home.”
The 2014 Miss Chick and Mr. Rooster, Malaynee Costello and Cruz Nunez, attended the event to hand off their crowns. The girls took to the stage first.
Sophia, 4, Isabella, 4, Mckynlee, 5 and Calloway, 4, were this year’s contestants. They were all asked their names, ages, favorite cartoon and if they had a talent to share with the audience. Some of the girls were more shy than others, but they all made it to the stage and participated.
Mckynlee Dickson, 4, was crowned this year’s Miss Chick. Dickson is the daughter of Danielle Dickson and Richie Dickson and the step-daughter of Dan Styles. During her presentation she performed a cartwheel as her talent. When asked if she had anything to say to the audience she replied, “Thanks for coming and seeing me.”
The boys entered the stage after the girls. Just two boys participated in this year’s contest, but the competition was tight. Both Bryson, 3, and Braydon, 5, dressed up to match the theme as a scarecrow and the tinman. They chose the same talent, singing their ABCs for the crowd.
In the end Bryson Severns, 3, was crowned this year’s Mr. Rooster. Severns is the son of Andrea and Devin Severns. Severns, lover of ice cream, got to give a shout out to his mother upon being crowned. “Thanks for letting me come,” said Serverns.
Both winners received a crown, sash, trophy and a membership to the Pottawatomie Zoo. The winners were invited to be introduced to the public during the evening’s variety show at 7:45 p.m. The contests that didn’t take home the crown weren’t left empty handed. Each contestant received a goody bag full of prizes for participating.
