Marvin S. Clay
Marvin S. Clay, 86, passed away at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
On Feb. 28, 1929, Marvin was born to Cloice and Cleo (Parker) Clay, in Burket. ON Feb. 24, 1951, he was united in marriage to Shirley Wilson, in Winona Lake. Marvin was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County.
Marvin attended Warsaw Wesleyan Church, Warsaw. He honorably served in the US Army after graduation from Warsaw High School in 1947. Marvin worked for the United Telephone Company as a self-contractor telephone cable splicer. Marvin also worked as a cable splicer for Hinkle and McCoy as a private contractor and Marvin owned and operated Clay Cable Construction. After retiring from the telephone industry, Marvin owned “The Corner Laundromat” in Pierceton. In his spare time, Marvin was an avid Notre Dame Sports enthusiast, loved bowling, enjoyed playing cards and gardening. Marvin was also the 1972 “D” Flight Club Champion at Rozzela Ford Golf Course.
Marvin is survived by his children: Lee Ann Galbreath, Noblesville; Lana Neff, Sparta, Tenn.; Lynn (Bill) Leslie, Burket; Lon (Joni) Clay, Warsaw; sisters: Carroll Laney, Warsaw; Marita Cox, Akron; and Delores Ginther, Bremen; his brother: William (Paula) Clay, Warsaw; his grandchildren: Ryan (Jamie) Shirey, Warsaw; Brandon (Serena) Shirey, Noblesville; Brent Bumgardener, Southern; Brook Bumgardener, Denver, Colo.; Chanda Belk, Naperville, Ill.; Justin (Stephanie) Leslie, Leesburg; Samuel Richardson, Melbourn, Fla.; and Cailin; Kylee; and Courtney Clay, all of Warsaw. Marvin also has ten great-grandchildren.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife: Shirley; a son: Lance Clay; one grandson; and one great-grandson; along with his mother and father.
Funeral services for Marvin will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, June 8, also at the funeral chapel. Reverend Andy Weaver will officiate the service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
