Warsaw Summer Camps Make Learning Fun
Warsaw Community Schools will soon begin itsĀ 2015 summer school enrichment camp. It takes place at Edgewood Middle School during the months of June and July. A variety of different camps are offered for all different ages.
The summer school enrichment camps start at 8 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. Edgewood Middle School Principal JoElla Smyth says, “The goal is to make summer learning fun instead of punishment.”
Smyth says they hire more than 200 people to come in and teach the kids. This summer they are teaming up with IvyTech and Science Central for a couple of their camp programs.
The summer enrichment camps started 5 years ago when the previous corporation leader approached Smyth and asked her to take charge of the program. The corporation leader then addressed that if the program did not go well, then there wouldn’t be a summer program anymore.
Smyth took charge and the summer enrichment camps have grown ever since. Smyth said last summer they had 315 kids and she expects this summer to exceed last summer’s numbers.
Smyth noted that the campers who live in the Warsaw area will be bussed to and from the middle school. The cost per camper is $100. The fee covers assistants, breakfast, lunch, supplies and camp instructors.
The summer enrichment programs offers a variety of different classes for all ages and all interests. The camps offered in July include; art in the great outdoors, 3-D automated design camp/CAD printing, intro to LEGO EV3 robotics, don’t try this at home and adventures in gross anatomy.
Registration ends soon. For complete course descriptions and to register your child, visit the summer link under academics on the www.warsawk12.in.us website.
