Trojans Earn Spot In Sectional Final
LAPORTE – The wait was well worth it for the Triton baseball team.
The Trojans, after having their sectional semifinal game postponed on Saturday due to the weather, earned a spot in the title game with a dominating win Monday night.
Triton topped Oregon-Davis 10-1 in a sectional semifinal game of the Class 1-A South Central Sectional. The game, along with the other semifinal contest, was moved to LaPorte due to the fact that their field has lights.
South Central defeated LaCrosse 11-0 in the second semifinal game Monday night.
The Trojans scored a pair of runs in the first and third innings in the victory. Triton added six more tallies in the sixth frame.
Landon Kaufman led the offense for the winners with two hits and four RBI. Zac Pitney had two hits and scored two runs and Gabe McPherson drove in two runs.
Dylan Hensley had a big night for Triton. He had a double, drove in two runs and scored three times. Hensley also earned the pitching win as he went the first 5 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking two. Pitney pitched the final 1 2/3 inning with four strikeouts and one walk.
