Charlene (Fuhrman) Bailey
Charlene (Fuhrman) Bailey, 99, a former resident of Churubusco and more recently of Syracuse, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse. She had been a patient there for over five years.
Mrs. Bailey was born on April 28, 1916, near Marion, a daughter of Charles and Faye (Smith) Barnhouse. As a youth she moved to Wabash County with her parents and later moved to the Decatur-area where she graduated from Monmoth High School in 1934.
Later that year she was married to Burl Fuhrman. The couple lived in Decatur until after his death in 1961, when she moved to Eel River Township near Churubusco. She had lived in and around Churubusco for over 40 years until moving to Syracuse in 2003. Employed at Churubusco Super Value for 15 years, she retired as a check out there in 1986. In 1971 she was married to Charles Bailey. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She was a member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing cards, shopping, crocheting, her trips to Arizona, and will long be remembered for her chocolate pudding. Most importantly, she loved and cherished her family.
The surviving relatives include her five children: Charles F. (Jo) Fuhrman, Decatur; Paul E. (Stephany) Fuhrman, Apache Junction, Ariz.; Karl L. Fuhrman, Syracuse; Phillip J. Fuhrman, New Palestine; and Kay (Ronald) Price, Emery, S.D.; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by her twin brother: Charles Barnhouse, in 1993; and an infant daughter: Dorothy Fuhrman, in 1938.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 4, at the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastors Corinne Boruff-Stucker and Rick Van Horn, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, or one hour prior to the service Thursday morning. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur.
