Warriors Third, Tigers Fourth In Turner Classic
LEESBURG – The Wawasee boys golf team had the top showing among local teams in the Bob Turner Classic Tuesday at the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.
Coach Steve Coverstone’s Warriors fired a team score of 321 to earn a third-place finish in the 10-team field.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger captured the team title with a score of 300. Penn was runner-up with a 319.
Host Warsaw, coming off a first-place finish in the Northern Lakes Conference Tournament Saturday, shot a 326 to finish in fourth place. Elkhart Memorial was fifth at 329, followed by NorthWood (329), Fort Wayne Canterbury (333), Triton (340), Warsaw Orange/JV (348) and Tippecanoe Valley (354).
The duo of Jeffrey Moore and Cal Heinisch led the way for Wawasee as each finished with a round of 78.
Tristen Atwood carded an 82, while Kaleb Perry shot 83 for the Warriors. Mason Germonprez had an 85.
Senior Jonny Hollar led the way for coach Ben Barkey’s Warsaw squad with a 76.
Ryan Cultice had an 81 for the Tigers. Brandon Eckert shot 84 and Michael Jensen 85 for Warsaw. Reid Cameron had an 88.
Jordan Anderson finished with a 76 to pace Triton. Greg Music shot 77, Braden Kreft 89 and Isaac Wall 98 for the Trojans. Gavin Eads shot a 101 for Triton.
Luke Delp led the Warsaw Orange contingent with a round of 78. Tim Rata shot 86, Jacob LaLonde 90, Luke Johnson 94 and Sam Yeager 95.
Tommy Meier had a 92, while Trent Rapp shot 98 and Lucas Rhodes 126 while competing as individuals for the Tigers.
Wawasee will host Columbia City on Thursday. Warsaw and Triton will play in the Lafayette Jeff Classic Saturday. Valley will compete in the LaVille Lancer Invitational on Saturday.
