Vintage And Rare Finds At Show
Vintage motorcycles and a glimpse at rare finds were found at the Seventh Annual Pierceton Vintage Motorcycle Show & Swap Saturday morning.
Approximately 50 motorcycles 20 years old or older were ridden or trailered in for the show, which began at 9 a.m. and ended with awards at 3 p.m. The event, hosted by the Pierceton Chamber of Commerce, was held in Brower Park, downtown Pierceton.
Among the vintage motorcycles was a 1966 Honda Dream and 1965 Ducati Scrambler 250. There were also lots of bikes manufactured by Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki in all makes and models.
The rare finds included a Kawasaki 1000R commemorating Eddie Lawson’s National Championship in 1982. This bike, owned by Sean Eviston, Fort Wayne, is one of 900 motorcycles sold in North America and is the only original motorcycle seen in the last five to 10 years. Eviston’s motorcycle still has all original parts including the signature plaque and handlebars.
Other rarities included a custom made motorcycle and sidecar owned by Railton Loy, Mishawaka, as a tribute to veterans, particularly his father, Sgt. Raymond Loy. The custom motorcycle was built by Railton Loy’s son, Richard. The fuel tanks are from a Harley, the side car is from the sides of a refrigerator, the headlight from a tractor. The engine is a Honda Clone Preditor purchased from Harbour Freight, and the pouches are real Army ammunition cans.
Enthusiast also were given a chance to see a Rickman race bike, a Sears manufactured by Puch in Australia, and a 1960 Honda 350 Dream. But that’s not all. There was a “waterbuffalo” on display which is a water cooled triple cycle, 2-cycle Suzuki GT750, a highly customized motorcycle. There was also a 1977 Honda CB 550 Sealth Black 600 and 1982 Yamaha Virago.
Motorcycle owners from Pentwater, Mich.; Vanwert, Ohio; Fort Wayne, Peru, Kendallville, Mishawaka and locally came to show off their motorcycles.
