Tigers Top Vikings On Diamond
WARSAW – The Warsaw softball team celebrated its Senior Night with a 10-6 win over Tippecanoe Valley Friday night.
The host Tigers scored three runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead in the non-conference contest. Valley scored a pair in the fourth to make it 3-2 before Warsaw scored three in the home half of the fourth for a 6-2 lead.
Warsaw took a 10-2 lead with a four-run sixth frame before the Vikings plated four runs in their final at-bat for the 10-6 final.
Sarah Shoemaker led the offense for Warsaw with three hits and an RBI.
Abby Glass had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI and Sidney Hernandez three RBI for the Tigers. Hernandez also slugged a home run for the Tigers.
Eight of the nine players in the lineup had hits for Warsaw in the win.
Glass pitched six strong innings to get the win. The sophomore struck out one and walked just one for the Tigers.
Darian Dotson led Valley with two doubles and two RBI. Katie Prater had three hits and two RBI for the Vikings.
Warsaw (3-19) plays a doubleheader at South Bend St. Joseph on Saturday. The Tigers then face Goshen at 10 a.m. Monday in the opening game of the Elkhart Memorial Sectional.
Valley (3-17) will play Argos at 9 a.m. Saturday in the opening game of its own tournament. The Vikings will meet Fairfield at 10 a.m. Monday in the first game of the Lakeland Sectional.
