Fred P. Scroggs
Fred P. Scroggs, 95, of Columbia City, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.
He was born June 11, 1919, in McCaysville, Georgia a son of Homer and Lula (Denny) Scroggs. He graduated from Fannin County High School in Morganton and received an associate degree from a technical school in Dayton, Ohio.
He married Marjorie Ann Pepple. They made their home in Allen County most of their married life, retiring to Whitley County. Mrs. Scroggs died June 18, 2003.
He was employed at Bell Aircraft during WWII, GI Case in Churubusco for four years and retired from International Harvester in 1983.
Surviving relatives include five sons: Steve Scroggs, Mattoon, Ill.; Jim (Charlotte) Scroggs, Jasper, Tenn.; Mark (Sherry) Scroggs, Warner Robins, Ga.; Jonathon (Amanda) Scroggs, Warsaw; and Timothy (Christine) Scroggs, Columbia City; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister: Cora Scroggs Pickelsimer Payne, Blairesville, Ga.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers: Roy; Howard; Clarence; Herman; Paul; and Denny; and two sisters: Ruth Ann Owenby; and Eunice Phillips.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with visitation from noon to 3 p.m. at the funeral home prior. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Huntertown.
Preferred memorials are to Eagle Quest Church or Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
