Triton Tennis Wins Sectional Opener
BREMEN – The Triton girls tennis team took the first step towards a sectional title Tuesday night.
The Trojans used a dominating singles sweep to defeat LaVille 4-1 in the opening match of the Bremen Sectional at Sunnyside Park.
Senior Kaelyn Mason led the way for Triton by downing Kaitlyn Haisley 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles play.
The Trojans, fresh off winning the Northern State Conference Tournament title on Saturday, got big wins from Shayla May and Quinn Downing in singles action too.
Junior May topped Tabitha Limburger 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Freshman Downing completed the singles shutout by defeating Karli Watts 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3.
The Trojans also won at No. 2 doubles as freshmen Emma Ross and Hannah Wanemacher stopped Savannah Lucas and Brianna Kennedy 6-4, 6-0.
The lone point for LaVille came at No. 1 doubles as the team of Katie Simmons and McKenzie Leed beat senior Kylie Mason and freshman Kolbie Mason 6-4, 6-2.
Triton will face another NSC foe in Glenn in a semifinal match Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Host and defending champion Bremen will play Plymouth in the other semifinal matchup Thursday.
The sectional championship match is set for Friday at 4:30 p.m.
