Whitko Sports Wrap – May 18
The Whitko baseball team posted a 5-3 win over West Noble in non-conference action Monday night.
The host Wildcats scored once in the first inning and plated two runs in both the fifth and sixth frames to take a 5-0 lead. The Chargers scored three runs in their final at-bat in the seventh.
Tanner Gaff and Garrett Smiley each went 2-3 to lead Whitko. Each player hit a solo home run in the victory.
Alex Robbins went six innings to notch the pitching win. Hunter Sroufe earned the save in the final inning for Whitko.
Pancho Luevaro had two hits, including a two-run double, for West Noble.
Whitko improves to 17-7 on the season, while the Chargers drop to 9-11.
Whitko plays at Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday in a Three Rivers Conference game.
Softball Team Tops Southwood
The Whitko softball team celebrated Senior Night with a big 11-1 win over Southwood.
Aly Nicodemus earned the pitching win for the hosts in the Three Rivers Conference contest.
Leading the offense were Haley Yohe, Hanna Yohe, Kennedy Krull, Emily Day, Riley Insley and Maddie Gawthrop.
The team honored seniors Nicodemus and Gawthrop prior to the game.
Whitko will host Lakeland Tuesday night.
JV Baseball Team Drops Close One
The Whitko junior varsity baseball team lost 6-5 at Marion Monday.
River West, along with Brandon Fugate, Reed Brace, Bailey Platt and Jake Rothgeb all had hits for the Wildcats.
Ryan Day took the pitching loss despite allowing just three earned runs.
Whitko, now 15-6, will play at Peru Tuesday evening.
