Betty Jane (Stump) Holderead
Betty Jane (Stump) Holderead, 92, passed away on Monday morning, May 18, 2015, in the Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth.
Betty was born in South Bend, on March 3, 1923 to Harry S. and Irma B. (Cole) Rowe.
On June 23, 1940 in the Pine Creek Church, Betty became the bride of Grant Stump. He would precede her in death on June 2, 1982.
While her children were young, she was a wonderful stay at home mom. In her later years, she would help build and manage the Big Oak Apartments in Sebring, Fla.
Betty loved golf and won many trophies. Her daughter, Katie, and she played for many years, including in three leagues together. Betty loved music, learning to play the piano by ear, and loved singing, especially with her sisters. She served as a bible school teacher at the Pine Creek Church.
On June 18, 1993, Betty would marry Crayton Holderead in the Plymouth Church of the Brethren. He would precede her in death on November 14, 1999.
She was a member of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, serving as deacon at the church.
Betty is survived by her son: Deane (Mary) Stump, Plymouth; and their children: Mindy (Jay) Potter, Sylvania, Ohio; and Michael (Judy) Stump, Plymouth; daughter: Donna (Lamar) Ritenour, Sebring, Fla.; and their children: Christopher (Shannon); and Anthony (Laura), of Sebring, Fla.; and daughter: Kathleen “Katie” J. (Gary) Nolen, South Bend; and their sons: Steve Nolen; and Jeff Nolan, both of South Bend; 17 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Her step-daughters are: Diana (Larry) Curtis; Martha (Richard) Day, both of Plymouth; and her step-sons are: Wayne (deceased) (Billie) Holderead, Plymouth; and Bruce (Janice) Holderead, North Royalton, Ohio. Also surviving are her siblings: Mary (David) Read, Wasaw; and Owen (Betty) Rowe; Paul (Shirley) Rowe; and Wanda Colavitti, all of Plymouth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Grant; and Crayton; grandson: Lamar D. Ritenour; and siblings: Helen Parker; Virginia Hepler; Harold; and Harry Jr Rowe.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth. Memorial services will immediately follow at 1 p.m. with her nephew Rev. Roy Herbster officiating.
Private family burial will be in the Bremen Cemetery.
