Tigers, Warriors Show Plenty At JV NLC
ELKHART – The future of both the Warsaw and Wawasee track programs were on display Saturday at the Northern Lakes Conference Junior Varsity girls and boys track meets at Elkhart Memorial. And the future surely looks bright as both programs posted a multitude of top-three finishes on each side.
Team scores were not kept for the meet, but over two dozen athletes and relays fromĀ both schools combined for top-three spots at the meet.
Warsaw’s girls team had a handful of first-place showings. Mallory Hooks was the top runner in the 1600 run at 5:42.00 while sisters Lauren and Charlene Orr were one-two in the 3200 run at 12:21.14 and 12:26.51. Celakia Fields was tops in the 200 at 29.38 and Morgan Bruner was first in the high jump at 4-10, taking jumps over teammate Bayly Dobbins’ 4-10. Bruner was also second in the long jump at 14-8.25.
Warsaw’s 4×400 relay was first at 4:37.46 and the 4×100 was also first at 54.33.
The Warsaw boys also had the top 4×400 relay at 46.83 and the top 4×400 relay at 3:46.34.
Bishop Harrison won the 400 for the Tigers at 55.07 and Joe Harness was the top high jumper at 5-10.
Rounding out the Warsaw top three’s were Kaitlin Whitaker in the 100 hurdles (third, 18.42) and the 300 hurdles (second, 54.76), Audrey Hansen in the 300 hurdles (third, 55.45), Taylor Stricker in the 800 (third, 2:43.99) and Emma Lemon in the 1600 (third, 6:01.86).
Wawasee’s Liz Hardy had the lone top finish for her club, landing 15-4 in the long jump for honors. Warrior discus throwers Brooklyn McCulloch and Dylan Elpusan each were third with tosses of 86-9.5 and 111-5.5, respectively. Adriene Gill was second in the 100 (13.99) and third in the 200 (29.99).
Wawasee’s boys 4×800 relay was third at 9:40.94 and the boys 4×100 relay was third at 47.30.
