Are Your Plans Only Good Intentions?
Are your plans only good intentions? You know what I mean. You take all the time in the world to plan things out, but when it comes to taking action, things seem to stall.
Here is our quote for the day, it is by Peter F. Drucker. “Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work.”
If you are a frequent reader you will often hear me mention planning — planning for your life, planning for your career, or planning for your business.
Planning is a key component to a successful life, career and business, but it is only a part of the process. Do you know anyone who writes out detailed plans, but never seems to achieve what they were planning? Maybe you have done that yourself? I know I have. I have taken the time to plan things out in detail and even wrote it down, but then for whatever reason failed to act on the plans.
I think this happens all too often to many of us. There is no substitute for taking action. We achieve success not in the planning, but the doing. As Drucker said, plans are only good intentions, unless there is action that follows those plans.
I believe if you start with small steps in the beginning you will experience success, then that success will lead to the motivation to continue to the next step and so on and so on. Don’t settle for just good intentions. After you complete your plan, put feet on your plan — one step after another. What can you do today in the direction of your plans?
