Earnest A. Mumford
Earnest A. Mumford, 88, Silver Lake, died at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at his home.
He was born April 16, 1927, in Brookville, Pa., to Lewis and Rachel L. (Reed) Mumford, in Silver Lake.
He married Ruby D. Nelson on Aug. 18, 1946, also in Silver Lake. He served in United States Navy during World War ll aboard the U.S.S. Norton Sound in the South Pacific. Cox Swain Earnest Alexander Mumford was honorably discharged June 4, 1946.
Earnest was owner and operator of Mumford Plumbing and Heating of Silver Lake and Claypool for 47 years.
His first love was wife, Ruby, second love was fishing. He enjoyed the plumbing business and gardening; past commander and life member of Silver Lake American Legion Post No. 141; and he liked using his chain saw.
He is survived by two sons: Ernest Alan “Skip” Mumford, Silver Lake; Edward Dean Mumford, Claypool; and a daughter: Connie Long, Warsaw; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Ruby Mumford, on March 7, 2003; two brothers: Grant Mumford, on May 15, 2012; and Wayne Mumford; and one sister: Helen Rhoades.
Services will be held at a later date. Burial will also be held at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, and will include military graveside honors conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post No. 49 and VFW Post No. 1126.
