Hiring Tips For Business Owners Given
What kinds of questions are legal to ask a prospective employee? After attending a seminar on this topic, North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce board member Helen Leinbach gave some of the tips she learned from the experts.
As the head of the North Webster Community Public Library, she is the one hiring for that organization and was at the seminar on the library’s behalf.
She passed on information she received there on how to ask questions and other tips about hiring paperwork required by federal and state governments. These were shared at the chamber’s general membership meeting. It was held Monday at the North Webster American Legion Post 253.
Jen Ducey, Tippecanoe Township representative and chamber secretary, presided during the business meeting. She explained roundtable discussion is being instituted at the end of the monthly general business meetings. It is an opportunity to ask business related questions from other businesses owners and organization leaders.
The goal is to encourage and mentor other businesses. All members of the chamber are urged to attend as well as prospective members.
North Webster Community Guide 2015-2016 magazines were available at the meeting. Those present were reminded the guides are free and contain a wide variety of information about the North Webster area and chamber members and are a reference for citizens and visitors alike. The cover features a water skier and the Dixie tour boat.
Ducey noted members wanting to have the guides at their locations should call the chamber at (574) 834-7076 or email [email protected]. They can be picked up at the chamber office in the Tippecanoe Township building, 102 S. Morton St., North Webster, but notice needs to be given so the office will be open. On behalf of the chamber, Ducey thanked the committee for a job well done.
Dixie Day plans have been solidified for Saturday, July 25. Volunteers are still needed for several spots. “Contact the chamber if interested,” Ducey commented.
Ben Ashpole, Udenity.com, discussed the information collected from the members at the April meeting. The topic was how can the chamber better serve the membership. Several suggestions were brought forward to be addressed by the board at its next gathering.
Eastlund Funeral Home is the May Business of the Month, chosen by the chamber board. The sign has been placed at the funeral home. A long time chamber member, the business has always been willing to support the chamber and the communities it serves in many ways.
Articles for the chamber newsletter can be submitted to [email protected]. Ashpole reported the May issue is ready to be emailed.
The chamber shoe collection continues and the bin is full at the North Webster Community Center, explained Leinbach. Old shoes can be donated at the boxes at the NWCC, American Legion and the chamber office.
The next general membership meeting will be held noon Monday, June 8, North Webster American Legion Post 253, 756 S. SR 13. For more information visit the chamber’s Facebook page or go to the website, www.northwebster.com.
