Helen Lee Schneider
Helen Lee Schneider, 92, of rural Columbia City, died Monday May 11, at her home. She had been in failing health.
She was born July 14, 1922 in Trimble County, Kentucky a daughter of Roy and Zelphia (Parsons) Ogden. Her formative years were spent in Kentucky. Later the family moved to Madison, where she graduated high school.
On Feb. 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Walter M. Schneider. They first made their home in Columbia City and then Tri Lakes for 55 years. Mr. Schneider died June 11, 2006.
She started her work career with United Telephone, Columbia City and then Blue Bell, ION Capacitor Corporation for 15 years and retired from Ferro Magnetics in 1985.
An over 60 year member of American Legion Post 98 auxiliary, she was also a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
She is survived by her son: Bennie Craig, Columbia City; grandchildren: Verlin (Valerie) Craig, Columbia City; Melissa Sandager, Columbia City; and Monica (Gary) Slentz, Howe; 14 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister: Evelyn Egolf, Columbia City.
She was preceded in death by brothers: William and Merl Ogden; sisters: Nita Shepard; Mertyl Engle; Jessie Liter; grandson: Walter Craig; and great grandson: Walker Evans Craig.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation Saturday from noon until service at the funeral home. The burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery.
