Ruth Ann Gilbertson Bremer
Ruth Ann Gilbertson Bremer, 93, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.
She was born on Aug. 13, 1921, in Edmund, Wisconsin to Oscar E. and Carol (Draggs) Gilbertson. In her early years, she lived in Edmund, Wisconsin; several years in Boulder, Colorado; 50 years in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and 10 years in Akron, and North Manchester.
Ruth graduated from Dodgeville High School, Wisconsin in 1939 and then received her nursing degree in 1946 from Milwaukee General School of Nursing. She married Robert Baird (deceased) in 1952 and later divorced. She then married Donald J. Bremer on Sept. 2, 1960, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They were married over 50 years when he died in 2011.
Ruth was a registered nurse and took great pride in her work as a nurse and enjoyed reunions with Blodgett Memorial Hospital retired nurses. She had been a member of Wyoming Park United Methodist Church and the Akron United Methodist Church. She loved to encourage others, knitting and Bible studies. Caring for her family and friends gave her much joy.
Surviving Ruth is one daughter: Carol (David) Ellenwood, Rochester; two sons: Douglas Baird, Golden, Colorado; Thomas (Nan) Baird, Woodland Hills, California; seven grandchildren: Matthew (Susan) Ellenwood and family; Mark (Andrea) Ellenwood and family; Kathryn Ellenwood; Bradley (Justin McKendry) Ellenwood; Patrick Baird; Trevor Baird; Jason Baird; five great-grandchildren: one brother in law: William Jesse; nieces and nephew, all of Wisconsin; two cousins: Mary Jean Thomas, Dodgeville, Wisconsin; and Kent Austin, Verona, Wisconsin; special friends: Jim and Bonnie Linscott; Nancy Chapel; Paul and Patty Judd and family, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Maci Callow, North Manchester.
Preceding Ruth in death are her parents; sister, Barbara Jesse; husband, Donald Bremer.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, with family and friends at Peabody Retirement Community, with the memorial service following at 11 a.m. officiated by Sue Babovec, Chaplain at Peabody Retirement Community.
Burial will be at The City of Grandville Cemetery in Grandville, Michigan.
