Concord Outlasts Tigers
WARSAW – The Warsaw girls tennis team almost gave Concord its first league loss Wednesday night.
Almost.
The two teams played a marathon match with the visiting Minutemen prevailing by a 3-2 final in the end in Northern Lakes Conference play at WCHS.
The Tigers rallied for a pair of three-set singles wins in the matchup.
Ella Knight topped Alana Brubaker 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for Warsaw. Rosie Fleming notched a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles over Kindra Pressinell.
Concord took the No. 1 singles match as Jenna Landis defeated Liza Lewis 6-1, 6-2.
Concord claimed the team win with a pair of doubles victories. Holy Eldridge and Mandy Meserve beat Camille Kerlin and Hanna Rice 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. The team of Alexa Klopfenstein and Shannon Purcell outlasted Sydney Hartman and Athena Schlitt 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2.
Warsaw is now 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the NLC.
Warsaw beat Concord 8-5 in junior varsity action. Winning for the Tigers was Libby Jenkins in singles play. Also victorious were the doubles teams of Greer Smith and Jennifer Katris, Bonnie Wong and Sophia Parke, Courtney Thompson and Corinna Good, Brooklyn Rummer and Taylor Biberstine, Alyce Allen and Sophie Olson, Jasmine Baker and Libby Jenkins and Corinna Good and Julie Frazzetta.
Warsaw plays at Culver Academy Thursday night. The Tigers then play at Goshen Monday and finish a suspended match at NorthWood on Tuesday. The NLC Tournament is then set for May 13-15.
