Tiger Sands Headed For Hoops At Earlham
WARSAW – Warsaw Tiger sharpshooting guard Nick Sands made it official on Tuesday morning, declaring his intentions to attend Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., and play basketball for the Quakers.
Energizing the Tigers backcourt this past season with steady play and solid ball control along with several long-range shots in big moments, Sands was the third leading scorer for Warsaw averaging almost eight points a game. The Tigers finished the year 18-5 overall and went 7-0 to claim the Northern Lakes Conference championship.
Sands, a senior leader that will be difficult to replace in the Warsaw lineup, was solid from the floor this season, shooting 40 percent overall (56-140), and his 81 percent performance at the free throw line (29-36) led Warsaw in that category.
Sands, a member of the National Honor Society, gained valuable experience off the court throughout his career at WCHS, working several community-service projects including this year’s Feed My Starving Children drive, and he served in internships with Judge Sutton and with Miner and Lemon.
Not only has Sands been a standout on the court and in the community, his effort and hard work elevated him in the classroom as well where he has earned an impressive 11.41 GPA on a 12-point scale.
Sands, the son of Dan and Lisa Sands, plans to study Political Science and play for coach Jason Polykoff. The NCAA Division III program competes in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
