Phillip Lamar Bowers
Phillip Lamar Bowers, 82, Wakarusa, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
He was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Elkhart, to Clem and Cecil (Whitehead) Bowers. He married Shirley (Hahn) Bowers on March 30, 1952.
Surviving are his wife: Shirley, Wakarusa; sons: Ritchie (Deb) Bowers, Nappanee; Ronson (Julie) Bowers, Defiance, Ohio; daughter: Stephanie (Bob) McGaughey, Columbus; sisters: Carolyn Bunger, California; Eileen Higgins, Florida; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents: brothers: Max and Elmer Bowers; and a sister, Ann Hinshaw.
Phil was owner of the former Hahn Shell Service Station, Service Manager at Truex Auto Sales and a school bus driver for Wakarusa Schools. He was a member of the Wakarusa United Methodist Church, an Amateur Radio Operator AE9U, Red Cross and enjoyed watching basketball, football, IU and the Colts.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday, May 6, at Wakarusa United Methodist Church, Wakarusa, with the service following at noon. Rev. Ed Geleske will officiate and burial will be in Olive Cemetery (West).
Memorials may be directed to the Wakarusa United Methodist Church or the Alzheimers Association.
