Warriors Fall In NLC Triangle
ELKHART – Wawasee continued to work well with its individuals, but a lack of depth caught up to the Warriors again in a pair of boys track losses Thursday night. Host Elkhart Memorial was king of the track on this day, beating Wawasee 83.5-48.5 and NorthWood 71.5-60.5 while the Panthers topped the Warriors 79-53.
Wawasee’s talented duo of Clayton Cook and JJ Gilmer were involved in all of the team’s first-place finishes. Cook was tops in the 100 (11.02), 200 (22.43) and anchored the 4×100 relay (44.24) that featured Gilmer, Cole VanLue and Tyler Courter.
Gilmer had the best high jump at 6-0 and landed furthest in the long jump at 22-4, where Cook was third at 21-3.75.
Wawasee had a handful of third-place finishes Thursday, where Jaxon Bame ran 55.44 in the 400, Stori Bright ran 2:11.03 in the 800, Sam Griner ran 11:02.74 in the two-mile, Hunter Jones threw 44-1 in the shot put, and Brady Robinson vaulted 9-6 in pole vault.
NorthWood led the meet with six top placings while Memorial were one back at five. Memorial claimed nine second-place finishes to NorthWood’s eight to separate the two teams.
Wawasee will compete Saturday at the John Reed Relays hosted by East Noble High School.
