IMPD Officer Helps Stranded Pizza Delivery Driver
An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer is receiving lots of praise for an act of kindness.
Officer Brittany Waltz spotted a young pizza delivery driver stranded on the side of the road trying to change a flat tire. She pulled over to help, but the lug nuts on the tire wouldn’t budge.
Bret Grubbs, the delivery driver, told the officer he had been on his way to deliver a pizza and was worried he would not get it to the customer in time. Officer Waltz offered to drive him to the delivery location a couple blocks away.
“People don’t realize that we do stuff like this every day,” stated Waltz. “I’m certainly not the first or the last officer to stop to help someone in a traffic situation like this.”
The pizza was delivered, although the customers appeared surprised it arrived in a squad car. Grubbs was just happy Waltz offered to help.
“I was grateful for that, I was stressed out and everything,” said Grubbs. “I did not expect it.”
While driving to the delivery location he told Waltz that his father is in the Army and his grandfather served in the Marines. Grubbs hopes to one day become a police officer to help others, as well.
Grubbs’ supervisor was able to help remove the stubborn lug nuts later and get the tire changed.
