Sneeze Causes Semi To Crash
A semi driver who sneezed while attempting to navigate an exit ramp off I-94 in Burns Harbor, IN, lost control of his rig Monday, April 27, and ended up rolling it on its side.
Edward W. McCallum, 48, of Hobart, IN, was driving his 1999 Peterbilt onto the ramp for exit 19, southbound SR 249 from westbound I-94, at approximately 9:15 a.m. (CDT) when he started sneezing, which caused him to run off the ramp into a grassy knoll. The rig, which was pulling a flatbed trailer with a steel coil weighing 45,000 pounds, rolled on its side.
McCallum was not injured. A wrecker was called to set the semi upright and tow it away. There was no fuel spill or ramp/interstate closures.
Master Trooper Jeff Council and Sergeant Lee Wright of the Indiana State Police responded to the scene.
