Gary D. Balser
Gary D. Balser, 44, of Syracuse and formerly of Elwood, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 22, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, as a result of multiple health issues, including diabetes.
He was born Sept. 17, 1970, in Kokomo, the son of Garl D. Balser and Glinda E. (Rich) Scott.
He was a golf course manager at Little Big Horn Golf Club and various other golf courses before his disability in June of 2014. Gary attended Elwood schools for many years and was a 1989 graduate of Tri-Central High School. He later received an associate degree in criminology from Vincennes University. He married Christina Evans in 1998 and she survives.
Gary enjoyed playing golf, boating, snowmobiling and enjoyed working in farming. He loved his family very much and he will be greatly missed.
His family includes his mother: Gilda E. (Rich) Scott, Muncie; Father: Garl D. (Julie) Balser, Kokomo; wife: Christina (Evans) Balser, Syracuse; three children: Garrett E. Balser, Pierceton; Gracen M. Balser, Syracuse; and Phillip Snodgrass, Fort Wayne; two sisters: Donita (Kenny) Conyers, Muncie; and Rustee (companion Joe Gutierrez) Scott; two brothers: Jim Scott, Fishers; Dean Balser, Swayzee; special brother: Larry Beard, Fishers; best friend: Bobby Bosstick, Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his step-father: Bennie Scott in 2005; and grandparents: Robert and Melba Alder; Jim and Nellie Melson; and Don and Joan Rich.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, April 27, at the Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Services celebrating Gary’s life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, Elwood, with Rich Leavell officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or Fresenius Dialysis Center, Warsaw, through the funeral home.
