Warsaw Sports Wrap – April 24
The Warsaw baseball team held off visiting Plymouth for a key Northern Lakes Conference win Friday night.
The Tigers topped the Pilgrims by a 7-5 final in the league contest.
Sterling Hay had a big game at the plate for the Tigers. Hay went 3-3 with three RBI for the winners.
Warsaw used a four-run fourth inning to built a 6-1 lead. The Tigers led 7-2 before Plymouth tallied three runs in their final at-bat in the seventh frame. The Pilgrims left 10 runners on base in the contest.
Marselo Rodriguez had two hits, including a double, for Warsaw. Cole Baker also had two hits for the Tigers.
Starting pitcher Tyler LaFollette notched the win for Warsaw.
Warsaw improves to 3-4 overall and moves to 2-1 in NLC play.
Warsaw is scheduled to play at Kokomo today and then return to NLC action on Monday evening at NorthWood.
The Warsaw junior varsity squad topped Plymouth 9-5.
Brady Yates and Braxton Tennant each homered for the winners. Luke Baker had two hits and Jordan Jones notched the pitching win to improve to 3-0 for the JV Tigers.
The Warsaw JV team is now 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the NLC.
Softball Team Edges Plymouth
The Warsaw softball team made it two straight wins in conference play Friday night.
The Tigers held off host Plymouth 7-6 for a Northern Lakes Conference victory.
Abby Glass collected the pitching win for the second NLC game in three nights for Warsaw. The sophomore struck out five and walked three. Glass also went 3-3 at the plate with a walk and two RBI.
Sarah Shoemaker had a big night with a 3-3 hitting performance with a triple. Caitlin Williams and Lauren Shaffner each had two hits for Warsaw.
The Tigers, who won 4-3 at Goshen Wednesday, are now 2-6 overall and 2-1 in the NLC.
Warsaw will host NLC foe NorthWood on Monday.
The Warsaw junior varsity team lost to Plymouth 11-10. Jordan McClane went 4-4 with a home run and Taylor Sleeth was also 4-4 to lead the JV Tigers.
