Warriors Win Abbreviated Whitko Invite
NORTH MANCHESTER – It wasn’t a great day to golf, but it ended up being a banner day for the Wawasee boys golf team. In a Whitko Invitational scaled down to just nine holes because of the poor Saturday weather, the Warriors edged Northfield by three strokes to claim the title.
Wawasee’s 163 was fueled by a pair of medalist scores from Tristen Atwood and Jeffrey Moore, both shooting a 39 to match the 39 fired by Northfield’s Braden Shindling. Maclain Herr aided the Wawasee cause with a 42, tied for sixth in the tournament.
Triton was third in the team tournament at 175, Whitko fourth at 181 and Tippecanoe Valley fifth at 183 in the 12-team field.
“I thought we played pretty well considering the miserable conditions,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “Jeffrey (Moore) finished with a triple bogey for 39. Tristen overcame a double on five to shoot 39. Maclain had short putting difficulties in carding his 42.”
Leading Triton was Greg Musik with a 41, tied with Issac Gotschalk of Northfield in fourth place.
Bryce Zimpleman paced the Tippy Vikings with a 42, which tied with Herr and Austin Trump of Northfield.
Whitko’s individual results and full team results were not provided.
