Altrusans Receive Awards At Conference
Local Altrusa member, Martie Lennane, was honored with the District Six Rookie of the Year Award at the organization’s annual Conference for members in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky held April 17-19 in Sandwich, Ill. Nominated by Warsaw club president Sue Creighton, Lennane was recognized for researching and coordinating the club’s newest service project, adopting a class at Lincoln School, and for her eager spirit and enthusiastic involvement in Altrusa activities and projects.
In addition, the club was awarded third place in the coveted Mamie L. Bass Service Award competition for their work providing monthly meals at the Baker Youth Club. Attending the Conference with Lennane were members Vicki Martin, club president-elect; Jan Sloan, board member; and Susan Woodward, immediate past president.
Conference key note address was made by Tim Suter, the Suter Company located in Sycamore, Ill. Chris DeVlieger, also from the Sycamore area, was installed as District Six Governor for 2015-2017. DeVlieger visited the local club in March and is working with local club members as they prepare to host the District Six Conference in 2017 in Merrillville.
The Club’s next meeting will be held at noon Thursday, May 7, at the Warsaw Library in meeting room B. Individuals interested in learning more about Altrusa and its service in the Kosciusko County area are encouraged to attend. The local club has served this area for 42 years.
