Wawasee Show Will Relive The 1970s
Oh, the 1970s. Bell bottom pants, tight fitting pants and bright colors. Platform shoes, leisure suits, disco music and Afro hairdos. That decade had a distinctive style.
And don’t forget … polyester.
Songs of the 1970s will fill the air during the Wawasee High School Choral Department Pops Show 2015, “Forever Polyester.” Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16, in the high school auditorium.
Connie Meadows, director of the choirs, said she loves the music of the 1970s “and so do the kids.”
In addition to singing and dancing, look for wild costuming, lighting, special effects, comedy and laughter. Among the songs performed will be “Higher Ground,” “I Just Want To Celebrate,” “Sing a Song,” “War,” “Tell You Something Good,” “Joy to the World,” “Free Ride, “Boogie Wonderland” and more. Songs that seem to stick in the minds of those who grew up in the 1970s.
There will be a medley of Queen songs and a ride back in time to the “Schoolhouse Rock.” Look for the Vocal Motion girls singing and dancing to a comedy routine of “Kung Fu Fighting.”
Preparation for the show begins in January with rehearsals everyday during class time. Vocal Motion typically meets weekly starting in late March and the choirs meet every night the week of the shows.
Choreographers for the show are Veronica Runyon, Ethan Wright and Allyson Weaver. Costumes are designed and made by Deb Sweazy.
Emcees will be Jonas Clayton, Taylor Heck, Allyson Weaver and Ethan Wright.
Tickets may be purchased from any choir student or by calling the high school at (574) 457-3147. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children, ages 12 and under. Seating is reserved.
