Warsaw Sports Wrap – April 21
The Warsaw girls track team continued its dominance over Northern Lakes Conference foes Tuesday night.
The Tigers collected two more wins in defeating host Plymouth 85-47 and Elkhart Memorial 91-41 in an NLC triangular.
Warsaw improves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the NLC. The Tigers have now won 44 straight NLC meets dating back to the 2009 season.
Coach Scott Erba, who collected his 99th coaching win Tuesday night, got a complete team effort as his team overcame tough conditions with the wind.
Six different competitors earned individual wins for Warsaw.
Mariah Harter took first in the 100 with a time of 13.58 for the Tigers. Also winning on the track were Audrey Rich in the 200 (28.11), Tennie Worrell in the 400 (1:02.38), Nicole Eckert in the 300 hurdles (49.46) and Allison Miller in the 3,200 (12:04.40).
Sam Alexander took first place honors in the long jump with a top effort of 17-2 1/2.
Warsaw won two of the three relay races on the night too. The 4 X 100 team of Harter, Rich, Alexander and Abbi Curtis was first in 52.22. The foursome of Hannah Dawson, Brooke Rhodes, Anna Craig and Miller won the 4 X 800 event in 10:08.04.
The Warsaw junior varsity team also posted two more wins to improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the NLC.
Winners for the JV team were Audrey Hansen (100 hurdles), Celakia Fields (100), Mallory Hooks (400, 1,600), Mercedes Sanchez (300 hurdles), Claire Kehler (800), Tisge Berelsman (200) and Michaela Roark (3,200).
Warsaw will shoot for its fourth straight championship Saturday in the Turtletown Invitational at Churubusco. The Tigers then return to NLC action at Goshen on Tuesday.
Tiger Tennis Team Drops NLC Opener
The Warsaw girls tennis team opened Northern Lakes Conference play with a tough 5-0 loss at Plymouth Tuesday evening.
The host Pilgrims won a pair of three-set matches to top the Tigers.
Lanae Singleton defeated Liza Lewis 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
The pair of Kendall Dreibelbis and McKenzie Scheetz topped Sydney Hartman and Rosie Fleming 6-1, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Erin Hunter stopped Colette Smith 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Jess Stillson beat Grace Miller 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
The team of Haley Harrell and Libbie Portteus defeated Athena Schlitt and Ella Knight in the No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
Plymouth won the junior varsity action 9-3. Winning for Warsaw were Brooklyn Rummer in singles play and the doubles teams of Chelsea Farling and Greer Smith and Taylor Biberstine and Sophia Parke.
Warsaw, now 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the NLC, hosts NLC foe Northridge today and entertains Fairfield on Thursday.
