Whitko Sports Wrap – April 16
The Whitko girls track team turned in an impressive effort Thursday night to top Rochester.
The host Wildcats posted an 82-50 win in the Three Rivers Conference matchup.
The outstanding trio of Elaine Warner, Kaitlyn Reed and Brigit Nemitz each won a pair of individual events to lead Whitko to the win.
Senior Warner won the long jump with a top effort of 17-6 1/2. She also placed first in the 300 hurdles in a time of 50.34.
Reed took first in the high jump by clearing 5-2. She also captured the top spot in the 200 in a time of 26.97.
Nemitz won the 1,600 in 6:07 and also topped the field in the 800 with a winning effort of 2:36.9.
Michelle Kelsey captured first in the pole vault for the Wildcats by clearing 7-6. Reghan Craig won the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.75.
The team of Warner, Reed, Craig and Abby Overmeyer won the 4 X 100 relay event in a time of 52.75.
Golf Squad Collects Win
The Whitko boys golf team beat TRC foe Southwood 183-192 Thursday.
Cole Bechtold fired a 41 to lead the way for the Wildcats.
Will Peters finished with a 43 and Grady Clingerman a 47. Tim Gensch shot a 52 and Cole Kessie a 59 for Whitko.
The Wildcats face North Miami on Monday.
Boys Track Team Posts Victory
The Whitko boys track team defeated Rochester 86-46 in Three Rivers Conference action Thursday in South Whitley.
Garret Elder won the long jump competition and the 100 for the Wildcats.
Alex Morales took first place honors in both the 110 and 300 hurdle events for Whitko.
Also winning for Whitko were Walker Hobbs (shot put), Conner Sherwin (discus), Daniel Kirkham (400) and Alex Wilson (200).
The Wildcats also got wins in the 4 X 100 relay from the team of Elder, Wilson. Will Bumbaugh and Gavin Powell and in the 4 X 400 relay race from the team of Elder, Kirkham, Brady Weeks and Zach Baughman.
Tennis Team Drops Close One
The Whitko girls tennis team lost 3-2 versus Northfields Thursday.
Winning for the Wildcats in singles play were Delaney Keim and Morgan Keim. Delaney won in straight sets and Morgan notched a three-set victory.
White plays in the Fort Wayne South Side Invitational on Saturday.
