Triton Sports Wrap – April 16
The Triton girls tennis team was almost perfect Thursday evening.
The host Trojans lost a total of just six games on the five varsity courts in blanking Glenn 5-0 in a Northern State Conference match.
Kaelyn Mason and Hannah Wanemacher led the way for undefeated Triton. Mason posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and Wanemacher notched her own 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.
Shayla May won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 to complete the singles sweep for Triton, now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NSC.
The No. 1 doubles team of Kylie Mason and Kolbie Mason posted a 6-1, 6-0 win. The duo of Quinn Downing and Emma Ross won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles for the Trojans.
Glenn drops to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Triton won the junior varsity match 5-0.
The Trojans will play in the Plymouth Invitational on Saturday.
Softball Team Edged By Redskins
The Triton softball team dropped a 1-0 decision at Goshen Thursday.
The host Redskins scored a run in the first inning and made it hold up for the non-conference win.
Kate Atkinson was the winning pitcher and Brooke Miller drove in the game’s lone run and had two doubles for Goshen.
Each team had just three hits in the contest.
Triton starter Brycelyn Garrison turned in a strong effort in the circle.
Goshen improves to 3-3 and Triton falls to 2-2.
Goshen won the junior varsity game 7-6 in nine innings.
Golf Team Rolls To Win
The Triton boys golf team topped Culver 162-214 Thursday at the Rozella Ford Course in Warsaw.
Jordan Anderson led the winners with a 38.
Greg Music and Braden Kreft each shot a 39 for the Trojans. Spencer Johnson had a 46 and Bryce Swihart a 47 for Triton.
Kenny VanDePutte led Culver with a 48.
Triton hosts Mishawaka and Glenn on Monday.
