Triton Sports Wrap – April 15
Trojans Sweep Tippy Tennis
The Triton girls tennis team picked up a 5-0 win over Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday night.
The host Trojans got strong play from its top two singles players to highlight the non-conference win.
Kaelyn Mason led the way for Triton with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hanna Dalrymple at the No. 1 singles spot.
Shayla May posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles over Whitney Hanewne.
Hannah Wanamacher completed the sweep in singles action at No. 3. She topped Morgan Brazo 7-6, 6-3.
The duo of Kylie Mason and Kolbie Mason beat Ariel Schuettner and Aarin Shewman 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
The Triton No. 2 doubles team of Quinn Downing and Emma Ross topped Kennedy Niedbalski and Cassidy Cave 6-2, 6-2.
Triton won the junior varsity match 5-0.
The Trojans, who are 2-0, hosts Glenn and Valley (0-1) hosts Knox today.
Track Drops Pair To Culver Academy
Both the boys and girls track teams from Triton lost close home meets Wednesday to Culver Academy. The Academy boys split the eight events with Triton, but took advantage of a 10-point swing in two relays and a one-two finish in the three sprints to beat Triton 70-62. Culver swept the 400 and 800 runs in edging Triton 71-60 in the girls meet.
In the boys events for Triton, Jessi Burkholder was a double winner in the pole vault at 11-0 and the 110 hurdles at 18.4. Nate Spangle won the 300 hurdles at 48.0. Derek Johnston claimed victory in the one-mile at 5:08 and the Triton 4×100 relay team ran unopposed at 48.3.
Triton swept the throws, led by Kain Coomer in the shot put (44-2) and Trey Watkins in the discus (123-4).
The Triton girls had solid meets from Jaela Meister and Baylee McIntire. Meister claimed three wins, taking the 100 hurdles (17.3) and 300 hurdles (50.7) along with the pole vault (7-0). McIntire took both distance races, with a one-mile time of 5:56 and two-mile time of 13:35.
Other field wins for Triton included Autumn Kann in high jump (4-8), Brianna Nolin in discus (90-5) and Katie Lenker in long jump (14-2.5).
