Janice A. Vance
Janice A. Vance, 88, of Columbia City, completed her journey to meet with the great spirit at 11:13 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015.
She was born May 9, 1926, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Ervin and Dorotha (Williamson) Steup. In 1929 she moved to Paulding County, Ohio, to live with her grandmother.
On Aug. 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to John D. Vance. They made their home in Columbia City moving to Westgate in 1967. Mr. Vance died June 7, 1989. In 1993, Janice moved to Fort Wayne, returning to Columbia City in 2001.
She retired in 1972 from Bondflex Rubber Company.
Her memberships included Eberhard Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aide. Janice loved cats, gardening, reading, watching movies and her family.
Surviving relatives include four children: Michael C (Charlotte) Vance, Fort Wayne; Jyll Blaugh, Fort Wayne; Cheryl (Dan) Price, Greenvalley, Ariz.; John (Sherry) Vance, Columbia City; her much loved nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a half-brother: Roger (Mary Jane) Steup, Auburn.
She was preceded in death by a sister: Natalie Steup, who was killed in 1947; and a brother: Arnold Jack Steup.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Eberhard Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, at the funeral home.
