Triton Sports Wrap – April 14
Softball Strikes Early For Win
Nine runs in the first two innings was enough for Triton to ease into a 12-6 win at Westville Tuesday evening.
The Jennings sisters were big for Triton. Hannah Jennings had a double, homer and drove in three runs while Courtney Jennings doubled and also drove in three.
Nicole Secrist popped her first career home run for the Trojans while Kayla Kreft and Taytum Hargrave each tripled. Zoee Stephen added three runs for Triton.
The Jennings homer and Hargrave’s triple were the key hits in the second inning for Triton.
Brycelyn Garbison allowed just three runs over four innings of work, giving up just five hits and striking out one.
Triton, now 2-1 this season, will next head up to Goshen Thursday and to Syracuse Saturday for a date with Wawasee.
Late Runs Doom Trojan Baseball
A 3-2 lead heading into the seventh soon disappeared as Caston would eventually defeat Triton, 5-4, Tuesday in Bourbon.
Caston didn’t have any one batter record an extra base hit, but made the little things count with three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead. Triton would get one run back to close within 5-4, but could not plate the tying run.
Zac Pitney shouldered the loss, working three innings in relief of Nate Flenar, who struck out four in four innings on the hill.
Parker Long picked up the win, going the distance and fanning three along the way. Triton did manage 10 hits on Long, three of which were by Flenar, who had two RBIs in the game.
Triton falls to 0-3 with the loss and visit Plymouth Thursday.
