Thank You Representative Nisly
Dear Editor,
Local school boards are elected. The State Board of Education is appointed. By the governor. For the last 80 years or so Hoosiers have had a voice on the SBOE via the ability to vote for the Chair of that board.
The Indiana House and Senate are trying to change that. They want the people whom Governor Pence has appointed to select their Chair. This is the group that sets curriculum and testing policy.
Do we really want Governor Pence dictating this? Not to mention that this sets the precedent for other elected state offices that if the legislature decides they do not like something an official is doing, they will just change his/her duties (auditor seeing something fishy? no worries).
This is not good folks. Senator Ryan Mishler ought to be ashamed of himself for supporting this. I thank Representative Nisly for standing with the people and voting no on this travesty.
