Gaff Pitches Whitko Past Eagles
CHURUBUSCO – Tanner Gaff turned in a premier pitching performance to pace Whitko past Churubusco.
Gaff fanned 16 batters as the Wildcats edged past the host Eagles 4-2.
Whitko, which was outhit 6-3 in the contest, took a 4-0 lead with single runs in the first and fourth innings and a pair in the second frame.
Gaff walked just one in his complete game masterpiece.
Drew Bradford had a hit and drove in three runs for the winners. Alex Bechtold was 1-2 with an RBI and two runs scored and Hunter Sroufe was 1-2 with a run scored.
Whitko improves to 2-2, while Churubusco is 0-1.
“Tanner Gaff was outstanding tonight,” said Whitko coach Erik Hisner via email. “He took a lot of pressure off our defense by striking out 16.”
“Drew Bradford had a great game at the plate. On a night when we struggled to hit with runners in scoring position, he gave us two great at-bats with the bases loaded.”
Whitko plays Saturday at Argos at 11 a.m.
