Manchester University has students from 24 states and 24 countries, and it is celebrating it’s multicultural tradition from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday, April 12, with the International Buffet, held at Haist Commons in the Jo Young Switzer Center.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12, plus tax. No reservations are needed.
Guests on the North Manchester campus can sample sweet macaroons from France, spicy beef kitfo from Ethiopia, and moi moi beans and do do, fried plantains, from Nigera.
Chartwells, the University’s food service, is co-hosting the event, supplying the materials and preparation area. The MU Office of Multicultural Affairs also is co-host and coordinator; its volunteers make the dishes and arrange the entertainment.
“It’s one of our signature events,” said Michael Dixon, director of Intercultural Services. The office is known for these events, one each semester. They include the international fashion show in the fall. The buffet is offered during spring semester in odd years and the international fair is offered in even years.
The menu also includes items such as:
- Blanquette de poulet
- Ifteer, a cheese puff pastry from Palestine
- Lohikeitto from Finland
- Russian rosolli
- Lumpia from the Philippines
- Yassa couscous from Senegal
- Fried plantain (dodo) from Nigeria
- Borscht from Uzbekistan
- Bulgarian stuffed peppers
- Vietnamese egg rolls
- Chess pie from the United States
