Lynn VanDerWeele
Lynn VanDerWeele, 83, of Argos, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, at his residence. He was born in Argos on Feb. 4, 1932 to Jack and Zelma (Albright) VanDerWeele, and has lived here his entire life.
Lynn married Virginia Schlosser on July 6, 1952 in Argos, and the two have shared the last 62 years together. Lynn had a deep love and devotion to his family. Lynn was a farmer and had worked at the Argos Elevator. He was a accomplished finish craftsman. Lynn served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Wadleigh as a Radarman 3rd Class Petty Officer from May 14, 1951 to April 29, 1955.
He was a member of the James Lowell Corey American Legion Post #68 in Argos, Indiana and had served in every office and was the Past Commander. He was a graduate of Argos High School with the class of 1950. He was a member of the Argos United Methodist Church, Argos. Lynn served on the Argos School Board from 1976 to 1980 and was the President in 1978-1979.
Lynn is survived by his wife: Virginia VanDerWeele, Argos; daughters: Teri L. (Kent) Blair, Argos; Tami J. (Art) Brock, Noblesville; sons: Jack D. (Lori) VanDerWeele, Argos; Jon G. (Patti) VanDerWeele, Argos; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and sister: Ann V. Lemon, Lake Oswego.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son: Tad J. VanDerWeele
Friends may visit with the family from noon until 2 p.m. Monday, April 6, at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos. Graveside service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery. After the graveside service, there will be a service of remembrance from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Argos United Methodist Church, led by Rev. Dewey L. Miller and Rev. Robert Vale.
Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos, with Military Honors being conducted by the United States Navy burial unit and the Argos American Legion Post #68.
Memorial Contribution may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 122 S. Center St., Plymouth.
