Elsie E. Spangler
Elsie E. Spangler, 99, Fulton, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
She was born to Grover and Ruth (Sullivan) Moss, in Cass County on Jan. 26, 1916. A graduate of the Twelve Mile High School, Elsie married Ed Spangler on Aug. 15, 1936 to begin a life as a farmer’s wife. Ed preceded her in death on Sep. 24, 1963. She spent a great portion of the second half century of her life as a cook in many local establishments, but her own restaurant in Fulton, “Elsie’s Restaurant”, remained her favorite. Elsie was an avid gardener as many years as she was able to give. A member of the Fulton Baptist Temple, she helped man the Penny Table many years for VBS.
Elsie’s three children with Ed survive: Sonja (Dean) Folger, Logansport; Bill Spangler, Fulton; and Linda Wade, Fulton; eight grandchildren: Sue Benson, San Diego, Calif.; Daniel (Melinda) Folger, Phoenix, Ariz.; David Folger, Logansport; William (Sandy) Spangler II , Ormond Beach, Fla.; Rose (Jay) Townsend, Kewanna; Ryan (Carrie) Craig, Kewanna; Nathan (Kindra) Craig, Rochester; and Joshua (Sara) Craig, Twelve Mile; great grand-children: Connie Gerlits; Nicole Gerlits; Lance Benson, California; Katie, Jakob; and Kaden Folger, Arizona; and Tiler Folger, Texas; Wes Spangler, Florida; Mitchell and Kaleb Townsend; Indiana, Isaac and Alex Craig; Rayne and Ryder Craig; and Allison and Bear Craig, Indiana; great great-grandchildren: Natalie and Mackenzie Gerlits, California; and one sister-in-law: Helen Moss, Logansport; Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Byron Moss and Dean Moss; sister: Laura Kantzer; daughter-in-law: Dolly Spangler; and grandson-in-law: Kevin Benson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Fulton. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton Baptist Temple.
