Connie J. Wilburn
Connie J. Wilburn, 62, of Columbia City, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Born Nov. 22, 1952, in Campbell, Mo., he was the son of H.B. and Thelma (Wasson) Wilburn.
Connie grew up working on the farm, mowing grass and graduated from Campbell High School with the class of 1970. He had been a semi driver for over 30 years, driving for Malden Wholesale Foods, Interstate, Schneider, U.S. Express and Celadon. While out on the road, Connie was introduced to Donna Kay Anglin by their dispatcher at Schneider.
Four years later, on March 27, 1993, they were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church outside of Columbia City. After their marriage, the two teamed up on the open road and were inseparable until Donna passed away on Nov. 9, 2013.
He enjoyed watching crime shows and auctions and he loved his 1957 Chevy Belair. Connie had attended Zion Lutheran Church in Columbia City before moving down to the Memphis area last May to be closer to his son, Tom.
Survivors include his sons: Robert (Arren Barton) Anglin, Jr., Columbia City; Thomas (Kami) Wilburn, Sr., Mason, Tenn.; Bill (Christine) Anglin, Albion; and David Wilburn, Austin, Texas; daughter: Shelly (Benji) Craft, Columbia City; brothers: Allen (Nellie) Wilburn, Florissant, Mo.; Darrell (Brenda) Wilburn, Campbell, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents: H.B. and Thelma Wilburn; wife: Donna Wilburn; and brothers: Brian and Bob Wilburn.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 30, at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Rittner officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s German Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in honor of Connie to the Columbia City Fire Department.
