Phyllis Virginia Steele
Phyllis Virginia Steele, 86, Akron, died on 9:47 p.m. March 24, 2015, at her residence.
She was born on June 24, 1928, in Wabash County, to Carl and Marie (Crumrine) Summers. Phyllis lived most of her life in Akron coming from Wabash.
Phyllis married Max Wayne Huffman Nov. 7, 1946, in Akron. He died on Dec. 21,1969, at the age of 45. She then married Paul F. Steele Jan. 29, 1972, in Chesterton. He died on Aug. 9, 2004 at the age of 89.
Phyllis worked at General Tire in Wabash, Chamberlains in Akron and Invensy Controls in North Manchester. She attended the Akron Church of God and enjoyed meeting with the Goldenaires at the church. She collected cardinals and painted woodcraft items made by her husband Paul. They owned P&P Woodcraft and attended several craft events selling their products.
Surviving Phyllis are four children: Thomas J. Huffman (Nancy), Rochester; Ronald E. Huffman (Doris), Macy; Bonnie L. Fields (Paul Tyler), Akron; Max (Lori) Huffman, Rochester; seven brothers: Glen (Ruth Anna) Summers, Wabash; Jim (Marge) Summers, Lagro; Richard (Barbara), Chesterton; Jack (Carolyn) Summers, Wabash; Rex Summers, Wabash; Bernard (Becky), Texas; and Robert (Joyce), Wabash; one sister: Helen Rough, Peru; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Phyllis in death were her parents; first husband: Max Huffman; second husband: Paul Steele; brothers: Maurice and Ralph Summers; one sister: Judy Murphy; one son: Donald Wayne Huffman; and one son-in-law: George A. Fields.
The visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, March 30, at the Earl-Love Funeral Home. The service will be at 2 p.m. following visitation officiated by Rev. Terry Canfield. Burial will be in the Akron IOOF Cemetery.
