Record-Setting Relay Leads Warsaw
WEST LAFAYETTE – Another record-setting performance by one its relay teams highlighted the efforts of the Warsaw girls track team Saturday.
The Tigers, competing in the Hoosier State Relays Indoor State Meet at Purdue University, totaled 17 points to tie for 13th place.
The 4 X 200 relay team of Sam Alexander, Mariah Harter, Tennie Worrell and Audrey Rich led the way for coach Scott Erba’s talented team. The foursome earned All-State honors by placing fifth in a school-record time of 1:46.23. Their time was 1.17 seconds faster than the record performance they posted the previous week at a qualifying meet.
Alexander also continued her early-season success by earning All-State individual honors by placing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17 5.75.
The 4 X 400 relay team of Rich, Worrell, Nicole Eckert and Abbi Curtis also captured All-State honors with a seventh-place finish in a time of 4:10.33.
Other top efforts for the Tigers included Allison Miller placing 11th in the 3,200 with a time of 11:27.15 and the 4 X 800 relay team of Claire Kehler, Charlene Orr, Lauren Orr and Mia Beckham placing 17th in a time of 10:23.78.
Warsaw is scheduled to open its outdoor season on Wednesday at Penn versus the host Kingsmen and South Bend Washington at 5 p.m. The Tigers are then slated to host Bremen and Kokomo on Friday, also at 5 p.m.
