Lakeview Academic Super Bowl Teams Experience Success
The sky seems to be the limit for our very own Lakeview Tigers this year.
Last Thursday night, the Lakeview Middle School Academic Super Bowl team rocked the competition during the Warsaw Academic Super Bowl Invitational at Wawasee Middle School. Academic Super Bowl, a competition of the mind, requires that students learn everything there is to know about Math, Science, History or English to a corresponding theme. The theme of this year’s competition was “The Grandeur that was Rome” which covered a variety of topics Greek/Roman, including Greek/Roman mythology, Roman epics/poetry, Roman history and agriculture, planetary science and Roman numerals in math problems. Students were gathering together to practice anywhere from one to three times a week, and many students competed in multiple subject areas.
The English team, led by English Coach Miss Megan Sumner, took first place overall competing against eight schools in the area. In addition, the interdisciplinary team, which included students from multiple subject areas, tied for first place with Crestview, a feat that has never been achieved because no tie-breakers could separate them.
“There are no words to describe how proud I am,” stated Miss Sumner, leader of the English team, with a gleam. “The kids worked so hard these past few weeks, and they truly deserve it, all of the kids do.”
The area contest will be held on April 18 at Wawasee Middle School and will determine their standings in the state. Teams that place in the top ten will be recognized by the state of Indiana for their achievements.
