George Hopkins Jr.
George Hopkins Jr., 81, of Claypool, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County where he was a member of the American Legions and V.F.W.’s of North Manchester and Warsaw. He was also a member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge #1423. George had served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 8th Armored Division. He received several battle citations and was honorably discharged in 1952.
George was a truck driver for many years and then worked at R.R. Donnelley and Sons of Warsaw retiring in 2000.
He was born on March 23, 1933 in Prestonsburg, Ky. to George Franklin Hopkins and Pearl (Risner) Hopkins. On August 8, 1959 he was married to Madeline (Shepherd) Hopkins, who survives and together they had three children. George remarried on May 18, 1993 to Beverly Konkle, who preceded him in death on March 3, 2012.
He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons: Anthony D. Hopkins, Claypool; Kevin D. Hopkins, Claypool; daughter: LaDonna (Larry) Bloom, Warsaw; nine grandchildren: Mandy R. Hopkins; Adam L. (Amanda) Hopkins; Jessica R. Dilley; Miriah Hopkins; Katelin R. Hopkins; Karri A. Bloom; Joshua W. Bloom; Jacob T. Bloom; Jared C. Bloom; and seven great-grandchildren: Mason A. Sullivan; Joselyn Dilley; McKinna Dilley; Trey Dilley; Matthew Dilley; and Trevor Stidhams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Beverly; two sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Lewis Shepherd. A graveside service will follow with military honors at Lake View Cemetery of Silver Lake.
