Warsaw First UMC Presents Classic Musical
The Warsaw First United Methodist Church Sanctuary Choir will present the musical “I Am the Lord of the Dance” by composer Joel Raney, at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Palm Sunday, March 29.
Sydney Carter’s classic hymn “Lord of the Dance” is a metaphor of the life of Christ. In poetic language, Carter describes Jesus as the piper, calling his followers to the dance of life. This work is an elaboration on that hymn, portraying each verse individually in a dramatic, colorful presentation, all retelling the story from John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”
With narration and scripture that have been carefully chosen to complete the story of the life of Jesus, the work ties together the verses of the popular hymn “Lord of the Dance” with a variety of other timeless hymns and songs, including “Fairest Lord Jesus,” “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us,” “I Want Jesus to Walk with Me,” “My Jesus, I Love Thee” and “O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee,” creating a worship experience for the congregation. An instrumental ensemble consisting of flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano will accompany the 40-voice choir.
All are welcome to attend this musical experience. The church’s downtown location is 179 S. Indiana St., and the building is equipped for the physically challenged. Listening assistance is also available. For directions or more information, call the church office at (574) 267-6933 or visit www.warsawfumc.org.
