Donald L. Quine
Donald L. Quine, 97, passed away at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Hearth at Tudor Gardens, Zionsville.
He was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Warsaw, to Clayton Leroy Quine and Edith Alzina (Archer) Quine. Donald was a 1935 graduate of North Webster High School; studied refrigeration and air conditioning by correspondence from Utilities Engineering in Chicago following his military service. He was married to Fern E. Taylor on June 21, 1941, in Warsaw.
He entered the United States Air Corp on Aug. 15, 1940. He graduated from two air corp technical schools in 1941. He served at several training centers in the United States and was deployed to the Philippine Islands and Okinawa in 1945. Technical Sgt. Donald Leroy Quine was honorably discharged on Jan. 25, 1946.
He lived most of his life in Winona Lake. Donald was employed by local businesses for 9 years then, in 1955, he started his own business – Quine Heating & Cooling. He remained its owner until his retirement in December 2002.
He was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church where he served as trustee for many years along with other activities. Don served for 10 years on the Grace Village Board and was a volunteer from its beginning. He was a past member of Gideons International, Winona Lake Lions Club and a life member of Warsaw American Legion Post 49; Don had great love for his family and always a loving respect for his many friends and people in general.
He is survived by his daughter: Deana C. Quine, Indianapolis; son: Douglas (Wendy) Quine, Victorville, Calif.; four grandchildren: Jason (Karen) Smith, Indianapolis; Shera (Jermaine) Chaney, Indianapolis; Adam Quine, California; Jennifer Quine, California; 15 great-grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by his wife: Fern Edwina Quine, June 3, 2012; son: Michael Quine, 1945; granddaughter: Laura Quine; three siblings and their spouses: Dorothy (Ordie) Miller; Marjorie (Bud) Will; Fred (Darlene) Quine.
There will be a private family service. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion, Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
