Sister Barbara Bruns
Sister Barbara Bruns (Leona Bruns), Poor Handmaids Of Jesus Christ, 95, died on March 17, in the Catherine Kasper Home in Donaldson, Indiana.
Sister is survived by her loving sisters: Marie Langlitz and Clare Rogers. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Raymond and Walter, and her sisters: Marcella Bresner; Irene Wagner; Loretta Hartman; Agnes Miller and Viola Humes.
Sister Barbara was born in Germantown, Ill. on July 11, 1919 to Herman and Wilhelmina (Kreke) Bruns. On September 4, 1937 she entered the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ congregation in Donaldson and professed her first vows on June 25, 1940.
Sister received her B.S. at St. Louis University and M.A. in Theology at St. Xavier University. Sister’s ministerial life included being an elementary teacher and/or principal. For a short time Sister was a teacher at Ancilla Domini High School and Ancilla College in Donaldson, Indiana, and tutored many students. Sister Barbara was a prolific writer and shared that gift with others through poetry. She loved to play Pinochle and Scrabble and she had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing The Family Circus cartoons that appear in daily papers. Sister retired to the Catherine Kasper Home in 2005.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in the Catherine Kasper Home Chapel, 9601 Union Road, Donaldson. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:15 a.m. Friday, March 20, in the Katherine Casper Home Chapel, Donaldson. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Donaldson.
