Donna B. Orr
Donna B. Orr, 90 of Pierceton, went to meet her Savior at 8:59 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
She was born in June 23, 1924, in Pierceton to Roy and Mahala (Werstler) Cole. On April 12, 1947, she married Herbert Jr. (Red) Orr in Lafayette, who preceded her in death on June 27, 1988.
She is survived by two sons: Steve (Pamela) Orr, Columbia City; Mike (Margaret) Orr, Warsaw; one daughter: Debra (Steve) Holbrook, Warsaw; eight grandchildren: Lance (Nicole) Hanni, Tennessee; James Orr, Oregon; Caroline (Keith) Shelton, Indianapolis; Tom (Theresa) Orr, Warsaw; Erin Sampson, Pierceton; Chad (Heidi) Holbrook, South Bend; Kelly (Jordan) Murphy, Kentucky; Ryan Holbrook, Florida; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins who she held dearly to her; and many wonderful friends.
She grew up in a family of eight children and is survived by one sister: Betty Cope, Ardmore, Okla.; and one sister-in-law: Maxine Cole, Pierceton.
She was preceded in death by five brothers: Alson Cole, Raymond ‘Nub’ Cole, Robert Cole, Franklin Cole, Everett Cole; and one sister: Elsie Best.
She graduated from Pierceton High School in 1942 at St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1945. She was valedictorian of both her high school and nursing graduating classes. She was a well-respected RN working at McDonald’s Hospital and Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw as a supervisor of surgery, Dr. Baum’s and Hashemi’s offices, private duty nursing, Prairie View Nursing Home and ended her nursing career after 17 years a R.R. Donnelley, retiring in 1985.
She lived her entire life in Pierceton until moving to Warsaw in 2010 due to health reasons. She always said her greatest gift and accomplishment was her family and she treasured spending time with them.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton with Pastor Holly White officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton. Visitation hours will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 22, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, at the funeral home.
