Milford Public Library News

Milford library events this week:
After School is Cool
Do you have the luck of the Irish? Make shamrocks with staff at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the library meeting room. We will make shamrocks out of pipe cleaners and beads. After we make our craft, enjoy a snack with your friends. Remember that each After School is Cool you attend earns you 10 points. When you have 40 points, you can choose a paperback book to add to your home library. See you there.
Knitting Club
Knitting Club is meeting from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 20, in the teen area of the library. Bring a knitting project and get help from experienced knitters. The club meets on the first and third Friday of every month. Come and learn how to make a scarf or mittens.
Puppet Theater
Many thanks to the Friends of the Library and Cayle Woodard for creating a puppet theater for our children’s department. The Friends of the Library paid for the materials and Woodard took the time to make it for us. The theater looks great and is ready for kids to enjoy in the children’s department. Children have many puppets to choose from and can create their own puppet show.
Adult Winter Reading Program
There is still time for you to sign up for our Adult Winter Reading Program—Escape the Ordinary. The program runs through March 31. For each book you read or audiobook you listen to, you can sign up to win a weekly prize from the Library. In addition, every Friday is Hot Chocolate Friday. While visiting the Library, enjoy a warm chocolate drink as you browse the shelves or sit and relax with a good read.
National Women’s History Month
Did you know that March is National Women’s History month? It is the time set aside each year to celebrate the incredible and triumphant successes of this county’s women. Try these books about particular woman whose lives are important to our history: “The Sounds of Wings” by Mary S. Lovell, “The Astronaut Wives Club: A True Story” by Lily Koppel, “To Space & Back” by Sally Ride, or “The Heart Of A Woman” by Maya Angelou. Not enough time to read a book? Borrow “Women In the White House”, located in our non-fiction DVDs. Children might enjoy “Amelia to Zora: Twenty-six Women Who Changed The World” by Cynthia Chin-Lee, “Back of the Bus” by Aaron Reynolds, or “When Sophie Gets Angry –Really, Really Aangry…” by Molly Bang.
Music at your Fingertips
One of the many free services offered by the library is Freegal. Freegal is a service that gives patrons access to music and music video downloads weekly. What exactly is Freegal? Do you use itunes?
Freegal is very similar, but the library has paid for the song or videos that you download. There are thousands to choose from. You can browse through all the artists or look for a specific song. If you have a Milford library card and internet access, then you can use Freegal. The patrons who already receive their weekly downloads highly recommend using this service. Stop by and pick up a brochure or call us for more information. Keep downloading those three free songs every week.
